Ana María Barceló

Ana María Barceló is a Puerto Rican flamenco dancer and teacher. From an early age, she felt a deep passion for dance. At the age of three, she began ballet classes, and by eight, she was studying full-time with the renowned Cuban dancers Miguel Campanería and Ana María Castañón. At just eleven years old, she was selected to join the San Juan Municipal Ballet Group. A few years later, she was introduced to the world of Spanish dance and began studying Classical Spanish Dance.

After moving to Valencia, Spain, to pursue a master’s degree in Cinematographic Screenwriting, Ana María discovered her profound love for flamenco. Upon returning to Puerto Rico in 2005, she began studying with Antonio Santaella, a renowned flamenco dancer from Granada, Spain, and was soon invited to join the flamenco company Mosaico Almudéjar. With this company, she performed in numerous theaters in productions such as El Crimen fue en Granada and Flamenco, Raíces Nuestras, among others. She also performed in several tablaos, including the well-known El Chotis, La Guitarra, and De Tapas con David.

In 2008, Ana María spent several months in Granada and Madrid, further developing her artistry. Upon returning to Puerto Rico, she launched her professional solo career as a flamenco dancer and teacher, producing and collaborating in performances across the island alongside some of Puerto Rico’s most distinguished flamenco singers and musicians.

In 2016, Ana María relocated to Houston, where she continues to promote flamenco, teach students of all ages and levels, and perform for audiences of diverse cultural backgrounds. She has produced and danced in numerous shows throughout the city and was selected to perform at the Houston Grand Opera alongside world-renowned soprano Ana María Martínez. Most recently, she was featured as a guest artist at the Hobby Center. Ana María continues to travel to Sevilla every year to train and immerse herself in the art of flamenco.
