Special Announcement about #NCGreatPerformances

Since the beginning of May, the Newberry Consort has released weekly installments of #NCGreatPerformances, high-quality excerpts from the ensemble’s rich archives with graphics designed by videographer Shawn Keener. To date, eighteen #NCGreatPerformances videos have been shared via the Consort’s YouTube channel. We hope you’ve enjoyed these weekly releases! Read on to learn about our plans for online content in the coming months.

Though #NCGreatPerformances was initially conceived as a summer project, the Consort will continue to produce videos in this series throughout the coming months as it is still impossible to safely perform live. Starting in September, #NCGreatPerformances videos will be released twice each month instead of weekly and the Consort will also host special livestreamed events highlighting early music topics of special interest to Artistic Co-Directors David Douglass and Ellen Hargis.

On September 4th’s #NCGreatPerformances, experience Mexican composer Juan de Lienas’ remarkable eight-voice “Nunc Dimittis” (Song of Simeon) sung by the Newberry Consort’s all-woman Convent Ensemble in 2012’s Celestial Sirens: Music from the Convento de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. This video will be dedicated to the memory of those who perished on 9/11. Then on September 18th, to mark the start of the High Holy Days, enjoy an excerpt from the Consort’s Sacred Love: Songs of the Sephardim program from 2015.

Stay tuned…. a special virtual performance of a beloved Newberry Consort holiday program will air this December. More details will be released soon!

We remain deeply grateful for your continued support of the Newberry Consort and hope you continue to enjoy the special online content we have planned this season!
