Raúl Fernández

Raúl Fernández is a native Chicagoan, dedicated to interpreting son jarocho and the centuries of rich music, dance, and verse tradition of southern Veracruz, México. Founder of the Son del Viento ensemble, he frequently leads jarana music workshops for children and youth. In 2012, Mr. Fernández developed and directed Paseo Jarocho, a production involving more than 20 musicians, exploring common roots and influences of son jarocho with West African, Middle Eastern, Carribbean, and Indigenous-American music and dance.
