Allison Selby Cook

Allison Selby Cook is a Chicago-based singer, actor, and multi-instrumentalist specializing in early music. After two programs last season with The Newberry Consort, as both a singer and a violist in the Renaissance violin band, she is so pleased to return twice again this season. Other upcoming appearances include Music of the Baroque, Chicago Arts Orchestra, Marion Consort, and Unum Vocal Company at Millikin University. In January, she will be featured as Olga in Lehar’s Merry Widow, following appearances in previous productions of La Traviata and Die Fledermaus, with DuPage Opera Theatre/New Philharmonic. Last season she collaborated with the English creative team of Christopher Luscombe and Nigel Hess to bring historical performance to the theater, as Associate Music Director and actor/instrumentalist in Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s Nell Gwynn. Recently, Allison made her international radio broadcast debut on Live From WFMT 98.7FM with Kerry Frumkin, singing a full program of works by Jewish-Italian Renaissance composer Salamone Rossi.  After studying with Ellen Hargis and David Douglass at Northwestern University, Allison went on to opera and early music festivals in Siena (Italy), New York, Boston, and Berkeley.
