Shakespeare’s Songbook

Beguiling and intelligent, provocative and classic – The Newberry Consort has been delighting audiences for nearly three decades. Directed by violinist David Douglass, Newberry Musician-in-Residence, and early music diva Ellen Hargis, the Chicago-based ensemble brings world-class performances of music from the 13th to the 18th centuries. For their concert at Purchase, they will be joined by acclaimed lutenist Paul O’Dette and tenor William Hite to perform works Shakespeare included in his plays, and works Shakespeare referenced in his plays to enhance the mood of the moment, or to even provide a subtext to the action.
